Your words will be a gift your kids will carry with them the rest of their lives. What words will you say over time? When will you spend the time with your kids to speak the words, show the words, or live the words?
Monday. Late-morning. Hotter than hot. Not even 24 hours home from vacation, and I was going through the piles of mail. There was a knock at the door, which was weird because no one ever knocks on our door unless it’s the UPS guy, and he doesn’t come until dinner time. Corralling the crazy barky dog, I looked out the front door window and saw a woman I did not know — and my six-year-old.
Men I want to do some lifting up here for a bit. I want you to take a look at the woman who God has placed into your life with you. I want you to stop and for a few moments look over the past years and see your wife in your mind’s eye. Now over the next few post, I will be discussing the responsibilities of a man Continue reading →
Dads, I come to you today about an issue that I will am facing in my household now. An issue that I thought would not have to face for another 6 to 7 years. I am referring to my daughter, who is currently 5, asking the question about swim wear.
“When I get the time son…” or “Let’s go guys…I don’t have a lot of time…” or “I got a time schedule going here, let’s move it…” Are these the phrases that your kids hear from you? Dad are the kids constantly fighting for your time, are you are fighting for your time and your wife is fighting for your time? We fight and struggle to get it all done and only leave a few seconds of time for God. Let’s talk about time.
Here is a topic that is thrown around a lot and misused many times. Yet that is what I want you guys to think about today. Are you a leading husband so you can have a submitting wife? It comes down to the question of are you doing what God has directed you to do, so your wife can follow the lead of her husband and do what she should do?
Hey dads out there! Here is a question for you, “Who is dating your daughter?” You may be thinking that your daughter is too young to be dating, but she is not! My daughter is five and she is dating now. Before you think that I have totally lost it, keep reading and you will understand why my daughter is dating.
My daughter is a special little girl to me. My wife went and picked her up at the hospital when she was 18 hours old and we adopted her within the next year on the Friday before Mothers Day. Over the past five years, I have watched with amazement and fascination at this child growing up before me. She has an outlook on the world that is unlike any other I know. She believes that everyone needs a hug, that she is a ballerina, and she can do karate better than me! Continue reading →
What dad out there has not walked through his son’s room and not stepped on a Lego brick? Yes, the best way to bring out your true feeling in the middle of the night is for a kid’s Lego bucket to be scattered around on the floor. They are small, the colors blend in to the carpet or flooring, and they do not bend or flex. You know dad, a lot of times, our words are the same way.
I don’t know about you guys, but I have a tendency to have some rather sharp, stinging remarks at times that fly out of my mouth. I think they are just the bad parts of me coming out of all this goodness, they just happen to come out at the wrong time. Continue reading →
Guys, my heart has been heavy on the role of a father and what the responsibilities of a father are recently. Today is a second part of the “What Are You Passing?” series.
One of the biggest issues that we, as a society, face today is the issue of fatherlessness. There are exceptions of Godly fathers, however, they are not the rule. If you look back in the Bible (Chapter 3 of Genesis) to where Adam & Eve failed the covenant that God has placed for them and they passed down the curse, Cain killed Able. By time that Chapter 6 of Genesis comes around, the whole world has fallen apart!
Now there is a good thing that goes along with a covenant. With a covenant comes a blessing. Look in Genesis 18
Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
17 Then the Lord said, “Should I hide what I am about to do from Abraham? 18 Abraham is to become a great and powerful nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed through him.
There was to be a blessing through Abraham that would effect the lineage of his family and which would eventually become Israel. Through his obedience to God, there would be a blessing. God’s hand of blessing goes with the covenant. We need to stop thinking contractually and start thinking coventantly.
