After all the commotion involving Irma, I sit here tonight in the complete quiet of the powerless house tonight enjoying the silence. There is nothing quite like it. I hear can however here the sound of the wind blowing through the trees. While listening to the wind, I have the house lit by the soft glow of outdoor solar lights and I am even using one to read by tonight. Men, have you ever got to a place that was that quiet and just listened? To just sit in quiet and think and pray?
You know many of us live a life that is go…go…go…and go some more. We have schedules that are maxed out and demand more time. It is times like this, in a way, that I enjoy. Today I sat down and just played with a Rubik’s Cube. Nothing else, just sat and played quietly for a while. Took a nap for a while. Read a book for a while. Watched the rain fall. Even collected water from the rain so the wife could wash dishes tonight. But the main thing is there was no rush here or rush there. The power was out, the TV was off, no lights, and it was enjoyable.
Men, it is time that we all spend a bit of time like this. Time to stop and spend talking to God. Time to stop and listen to God. Time to sit and watch His creation and know that He is in control. When was the last time that you just stopped and watched things go by? We as a society have found ways to cram so much into our lives that is not necessary, that the truly necessary things are pushed out to the “I don’t have time for” area. Time for prayer. Time to read our Bible. Time to sit with our family. Time to rejoice in what you have been given. Time to see the wonder of God’s creation. Maybe even time to simply sit and hold on to the wife that God has blessed you with.
I know that many people in the South will be working like ants over the next few weeks getting things back to “normal” from the storms. Try and find the time to look over your schedule and evaluate what is necessary and what is not. Family is necessary. God is necessary. Playing a round of golf is not really necessary. It is nice…but not necessary. Take time to ask God what is really needed in your life. Then take time to listen to what He will tell you.
We only get one shot at this life guys. One shot to take care of our wife. One shot to teach our kids. One shot to set the example. Don’t find yourself so busy, so tied up, so needed somewhere else that you miss the shot that is important!
Till next time…
