What would you say
if you had the chance to go back into time and have a conversation with a younger version of yourself? What would you say if you could go back in time and have a conversation with your dad, your mom, grandparents, or anyone? This past week many people around the globe celebrated October 21, 2015 as the day that “Doc” Brown and Marty McFly went “Back To The Future”. Except, we were living during that and what was considered the future is now the past. Somethings that were mentioned in the movie actually happened, somethings did not happen (sorry Cub fans!).
Having the option to go back in time and see yourself. That is a wish that many people have dreamed of having. The ability to correct an event before it happens. To have that “do-over” that we never get. That second chance, which if this would work, would be our first chance.
Now let’s set some ground rules.
Now what would you say? What would you consider that one pivotal moment that you had in life that you wish you could do over? Would you say “Take that extra time with your wife”? What about “Stop and read that book to your daughter as she goes to sleep tonight”? Would you make sure that you’re at your son’s ball game instead of working late? What would you say or do?
You see, the hard truth of it all is that you can not go back in time. You can not alter the past. There is nothing within you that will allow you to go backwards in time. The words that you have spoken are out there, the actions that you have performed are done; and there is nothing that you can do to reverse them. You can apologize for them, but you can not erase them. They are written with permanent ink on the fabric of life.
However, I can do this. To the dads out there reading this:
You can’t change the past dad, but the future…that is up to you.
Till next time…
