Are You STUPID?

Hey dads, you know those are words I have surely felt like saying at times. And sadly to some people, I have actually said them. Yeah it felt a little good at the moment, however afterwards it was not really what I was looking for. Many times in life we find ourselves at the point of frustration and we just want to scream out those very words.

You know those times, when your kids are totally getting on your nerves, not doing what they’re supposed to be, and asking crazy questions. Or have you had to explain something three or four times to your kids just to have them look at you and ask you a question that you’ve already covered? Yes, it’s those times you want to scream are you just stupid!

That’s when it’s time to take a deep breath, close your eyes, and breathe out slowly. Because you know your kids are not stupid. Your kids are just trying to find a way to communicate with you. Many times I find myself thinking that my kids should know exactly every thought that’s in my brain. When they have not experienced what I have and don’t know how things work. That’s when frustration on my part kicks in. However, it’s also in frustration on my kids part kicks in.

You see dad, your kids are as good at mind reading as you are. You might have to explain things to your kids over and over and over and over again. I don’t know about you, but I have found when I do not understand or know exactly what I’m doing, I get frustrated very easily. And when I’m trying to teach my kids something you at that time, it’s even worse. Dads, be open with your kids if you’re learning something for the first time just like they are. Let them know you don’t have all the answers. Let them know this is a new experience for you as well.

A little preparation goes along way. Most men don’t like to read the instructions. However it makes things easier when we do. So guys, remember to read the instructions or watch a video on your projects. For your daily life and activities read the instructions as well. They come in a book with 66 smaller books inside. When you pick up that book, check out Proverbs 12:18 and use it next time you get ready to say something not so nice.

Till next time…
