A New Year…A New You?

Contrary to popular belief, I am still alive. I have to just stop being so bloggish (if that is a word) and be what I am, the husband of a homeschooling mom during the holidays. But now it is a new year; 2015 has arrived and is on its way. A new year has begun, but are you still the same old you? Now you can follow along with the rest of the world and set some new resolution that will most likely fall apart, or you can make a life change. So, with a new year, will there be a new you?

Over the past years since I have married the most wonderful woman and cook in the world, I may have stored a few extra pounds here and there. Each year I would resolve to lose that weight and that would not work to well as the weight did not stay gone and more would come along with it. Finally my wife found this new life style called Trim Healthy Mama (THM). Now some of you may think that this is a ridiculous fad that will be the same as a resolution. The truth of it is that I have lost 40 pounds and maintained with little fluctuation. The difference is a change in my lifestyle, not just a whim or a desire.

I can say that over the past year there has been a huge life style change in my life. I have given myself over to God more than I have in the past. The change has been worth it. It has been painful, exhilarating, sad, and joyous at times due to the changes that He has made in my life. I am now a fully licensed and ordained minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am finding out what it means to be a new man and the old man left behind. I can truly say that I am a man most blessed by the life style change that I have made by following Christ.

Today starts a new year on the calendar. A new year for you to make some changes over the next 12 months. Any time that we make a change in something you need the gauge of time to see how it is working. Some times it is an immediate change, most of the time it is not. When we attempt to make a full life style change in our life it will take time. However, take the biggest life style change that you could ever do and give control of your life, your decisions, your thoughts, your desires, your wants, your wife and kids over to the one who holds it all in His hands.

37 When they heard this, they came under deep conviction and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles:“Brothers, what must we do?”
38 “Repent,” Peter said to them, “and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” 40 And with many other words he testified and strongly urged them, saying, “Be saved from this corrupt generation!”
(Acts 2:37-40 HCSB)

Take some time and think on who you are and who you want to become over the next year. Also, let me hear from you and your thoughts on making a change in your life for the coming year and a lifetime.

Till next time…
I’m Just a Husband of a Homeschooling Mom,
Steve Blackston
