How Are You Living?

I was invited to eat with a group of men tonight that will be speaking, attending or serving in some capacity with the “Why Me?” men’s conference in Thomaston, Georgia next Friday and Saturday. After one delicious low country boil, the men made their way down to the dock at the lake. As 14 decent sized men eased out onto this weathered dock we felt the shifts of age and the creep of time on the structure. We had come to this place to share our burdens, outlook and feelings on the “Why Me?” conference. One of the keynote speakers was there and he made reference to a scripture that hit me hard men.

How Are You Living?

How Are You Living?

1 How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!
2 It is like fine oil on the head, running down on the beard, running down Aaron’s beard onto his robes.
3 It is like the dew of Hermon falling on the mountains of Zion. For there the Lord has appointed the blessing — life forevermore.
(Psalms 133:1-3 HCSB)

So many times we as men show the tough, rugged, and hardened side of our personality. Tonight, I saw the other side of those men that were on that dock. I saw men who cried, I saw men who poured their heart out, and I saw men who were exposing their soul. That first verse hit me hard tonight. Why is it that we as men find it so hard to live in harmony with one another. Often we let the little squabbles or disagreements in life stop us from being each others brother and we become each others acquaintance. Now the difference is this:

  • A brother : A sibling, comrade, colleague, partner
  • An acquaintance : a person one knows slightly, but who is not a close friend.

Men, we need to let our guard down and find us another man who we can trust and share our burdens with each other. A person that can be your accountability partner. A man who can understand your thoughts. I am not knocking anyones wife in this, your wife is your helpmeet and your support. However, I am saying that a man needs a man to talk to and trust as well. As the photo in the post show, many times we wait so long in life to find the true friends or brothers. Tonight I saw what that very thing can do for a group of men. It was pleasant that we can came together in unity and harmony and it was a blessing forevermore!
