What are you digging’ up?

This post will test your cerebral country jukebox guys. On November 8, 1986 this song was the Billboard Hot Country Singles #1 song and on November 22 of the same year it was the RPM Country Tracks #1 single. Sadly enough many of us as husbands and dads are doing the very thing that the artist sung about.

I’m diggin’ up bones, I’m diggin’ up bones
Exhuming things that better left alone
I’m resurrecting memories of love that’s dead and gone
Yeah tonight I’m settlin’ alone diggin’ up bones.

Many times we as men will let something go when we have a disagreement with someone. I think many times to myself, “Be a duck…be a duck…just let it roll off your back and move on”. Yet somewhere way back in one of our boxes (that’s another blog post) we bury a bone of that disagreement that we will dig up later. It may just be a simple issue with your wife or your kids that you didn’t fully resolve. When we dig it up we see it in a new nastier light and it is uglier than before and rekindles thoughts in our mind that was worse that the original thoughts that we never resolved.

But then the question comes up, “Well, what should I do?” Maybe we should do this:

31 All bitterness, anger and wrath, shouting and slander must be removed from you, along with all malice.
32 And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ
(Ephesians 4:31-32 HCSB)

Lets make sure that we talk things out with our loved ones, find a resolution and then once it is buried, leave it there. Don’t spend time digging’ up bones and exhuming things that better left alone!

Till next time…
I’m just a Husband of a Homeschooling Mom,
Steve
