Time Keeps on Slipping

“When I get the time son…” or “Let’s go guys…I don’t have a lot of time…” or “I got a time schedule going here, let’s move it…” Are these the phrases that your kids hear from you? Dad are the kids constantly fighting for your time, are you are fighting for your time and your wife is fighting for your time? We fight and struggle to get it all done and only leave a few seconds of time for God. Let’s talk about time.

Time Keeps on Slipping

I don’t know about you, but this is a very stressful and busy time of year for me. In my church we do a passion play each year. For the past 5 years, I have played the part of Jesus. It’s more believable when I get the hair all dyed the right color. We as a church spend hours in practice on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. All other events start taking a back seat to the practice. When this is going on, the time that is within the day is never enough! I honestly believe that if there were 30 hours in a day, it would still not be enough. Do you find yourself in this situation? Fighting to find time to finish everything that you “should” do in a day?

Let’s talk about what we should be doing.

2 Do this so that you may fear the Lord your God all the days of your life by keeping all His statutes and commands I am giving you, your son, and your grandson, and so that you may have a long life.
(Deuteronomy 6:2 HCSB)

5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart.
7 Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up
(Deuteronomy 6:5-7 HCSB)

Now this is what we should be doing as the dads of our house. We should be taking, creating, making, ensuring, and not compromising the time to teach our kids about God. Yet many times we allow things to suddenly take precedence over our real job in life. That of being the dad, the leader, the provider, the protector, the guide, the role model, the filter, the comforter, and the first line of defense of our families physical, mental and spiritual well being.

So when things start to come at you from every possible side, even when it is church related, hold your ground and time with your family sacred! Time is something that can never be recovered, regained, returned or recaptured. So enjoy the time with your family and repeat and live those words of Deuteronomy 6:5 to your children.

Till next time,
