What is More Important?

Question for you men : “What is more important to you? The Blessing or the Blessor? Many times in life we ask for blessings to be bestowed up on us with our life, kids, family, home life, jobs and all sorts of things. When we are given that blessing, do we stop and remember to thank the blessor? What would happen to you if the blessor took back the blessing? Or even better, what if the blessor asked you to sacrifice or destroy the blessing?

The Blessing or The Blessor?

The Blessing or The Blessor?

If you look at the life of Abraham, he went though that very problem! Let’s take a look. Abraham was promised by God that he would have a son, and his seed would be as numerous as the stars in the sky.

Genesis 22:15-18

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
15 Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven
16 and said, “By Myself I have sworn,” this is the Lord’s declaration: “Because you have done this thing and have not withheld your only son,
17 I will indeed bless you and make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your offspring will possess the gates of their enemies.
18 And all the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring because you have obeyed My command.”

Now Abraham did receive his promise and Isaac grew into a young boy. Then came the test or question that I have asked you. Abraham was told to take his son, his only son, the son that he loved beyond and above all else, the one who was promised to him, the blessing that God gave to Abraham, and offer him to God as a burnt offering.

Have you ever been in that type of situation? Has there ever been something in your life that you have wanted so bad that you have done all that you can to accomplish it and through all your trying, it would not happen? Then through the majesty and glory of God, the thing that you wanted to happen, came true and you were blessed beyond all that you could think.

Take that though that you have in your head now and then after you have enjoyed it for years, grown attached to it and cared so much for that blessing and then go and destroy it! It would be like God asking for me to offer either of my two sons as burnt offerings after having them with me for ten plus years.

The Question

Abraham is faced with making the decision of “What is more important to me? The blessing or the blessor?” But if you continue to read on through chapter 22, you will see that Abraham trusted God with 100% obedience. Abraham went and took his son and made the trip as God had directed him, took Isaac and the wood to the top of the mountain and built an altar. Along the way Isaac asked of his father, where is the lamb for the offering? Then Abraham shows his total trust and obedience in God as he answers in verse 8

8 Abraham answered, “God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” Then the two of them walked on together.

Two things in that verse if you look close. The first is that Abraham trusted God completely and the second is that the two of them walked together. Since I have covered the trust part, let’s look at the second part. Do you take you kids by your side as you walk through life? Do they see the trust that you place in God? Do they see that life is hard at times and that you, the dad, even have to rely on someone else to help make it through? If not, let them see this! It is important to let the kids see where your strength comes from.

The Decision:

Abraham builds the altar. He bound his son and placed him on the altar and prepares to kill him as God told him. Just has he is about to, God calls out to Abraham again and tells him to stop. At this point God sees that Abraham made the decision that the blessor is more important than the blessing. Does God see this in you? IS GOD MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE BLESSINGS THAT HE BESTOWS ON YOU? That is some tough stuff to think on.
