What Are You Teaching Dad?

Dad’s, while reading this morning I came across this and I had to share it with you.

Psalm 78
1 My people, hear my instruction;
listen to what I say.
2 I will declare wise sayings;
I will speak mysteries from the past—
3 things we have heard and known
and that our fathers have passed down to us.
4 We must not hide them from their children,
but must tell a future generation
the praises of the Lord,
His might, and the wonderful works
He has performed.
5 He established a testimony in Jacob
and set up a law in Israel,
which He commanded our fathers
to teach to their children
6 so that a future generation—
children yet to be born—might know.
They were to rise and tell their children
7 so that they might put their confidence in God
and not forget God’s works,
but keep His commands.
8 Then they would not be like their fathers,
a stubborn and rebellious generation,
a generation whose heart was not loyal
and whose spirit was not faithful to God.

These verses are boldly and most definitely speaking to every man out there. We are to pass down to our children the Word of God so that they will put their confidence in God and not forget His mighty works. However, the best part to me is that in verse 6-8, where it says

6 so that a future generation—
children yet to be born—might know.
They were to rise and tell their children
7 so that they might put their confidence in God
and not forget God’s works,
but keep His commands.
8 Then they would not be like their fathers,
a stubborn and rebellious generation,
a generation whose heart was not loyal
and whose spirit was not faithful to God

Psalm 78
Are you part of a stubborn and rebellious generation? Are you passing down things that you have heard and known to your children? It is not an easy thing to do at first, but as time goes on and if you continue to push on, it will become easier to do it and in the long run you will be setting your children for verse 2 & 3.

2 I will declare wise sayings;
I will speak mysteries from the past—
3 things we have heard and known
and that our fathers have passed down to us.

If we as dads boldly stood upon God’s promises, this will be our children’s future. A future where they are not part of a stubborn and rebellious generation but a generation that will put their confidence in God.

Think on it dad!
