Isolation

Stomach VirusDads, have you ever thought it would be nice just to have some time to yourself?  You know, to come home and kick back and nobody, I mean nobody bother you for just a little bit?  That thought has often cruised through my mind and over the past 24 hours, I got my wish.  There is nothing quite like a stomach virus to completely isolate you from everyone in the house!  I’m talking about one of those nasty bugs that just wipes you out! There’s a joke there if you look.

But as I sat in my office (my isolation quarters), I could hear the kids downstairs laughing and playing.  I would look out the window and see them running through the yard.  Where I live, we have a yard and not a lawn.  I thought about the fact that soon there will not be any laughing kids downstairs and I won’t see them  running through the yard.  The thoughts of wanting some quiet time to myself were gone and I wanted to be with my family.

Men, we have been given a gift in the children that we have.

Psalm 127:3

(HCSB)
3 Sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord,
children, a reward.

The awesome part of the gift is that it keeps changing and growing into something new each and every day.  They slowly start to look like us, talk like us, walk like us and be like us.  The question is, are we providing a good example of what they can grow up and be like?  I don’t want my kids to be wanting time away from me and being an isolationist, do you?
