Dad’s Leadership in the Home

Husbands, do you know what you are called out to do for your family? Lead it! As I sat in the Men’s Breakfast this morning at the Teach Them Diligently Conference and listened to Tom Blackaby he brought up many things on how we, the husbands, should lead. His main point was, “Do you want to lead like Christ?” I have always said in my mind, “Yes I Do! Who would not want to lead like Christ?” Then Mr. Blackaby brought up the following verses.

Isaiah 53:3
He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of suffering who knew what sickness was.
He was like someone people turned away from;
He was despised, and we didnt value Him.

Christ was rejected and despised by men. Husbands and dads, are you willing to be rejected by your kids? Are you willing to place everything that you are before the world and be rejected? Kids at times can be mean. It’s a fact of life. But it is also a fact of what they emulate what they see as well.
Are you willing to carry the pain of your loved ones? Cancers, mental disorders, physical limitations are things that can, though not always, cause pain. Are you willing to step up and endure the sufferings just as Christ did for your family?

Isaiah 53:6
We all went astray like sheep;
we all have turned to our own way;
and the Lord has punished Him
for the iniquity of us all.

Dad’s, are you willing to give all that you have even when your kids go astray? The thought of Proverbs 22:6 is not a promise,it is a principle.

Proverbs 22:6
Teach a youth about the way he should go;
even when he is old he will not depart from it.

You can surround your kids with God all you want, but if you do not lead them, they will still be lost. Are you willing to take the punishment for what your kids do? They are your kids after all. A gift that was given to you from God Himself. They are yours and you must accept the responsibility of bringing them through the world when they turn to their own way. Still want to lead like Christ?

Isaiah 53:7
He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet He did not open His mouth.
Like a lamb led to the slaughter
and like a sheep silent before her shearers,
He did not open His mouth.

Things were going wrong all around Jesus, yet during the trial and cruxifiction He did not open His mouth in condemnation. Do we as husbands and dads do that to our wife and kids? Do we react or respond? Do we open our mouths and spew what we think or do we hold in the anger and bitterness and only let out the love of Jesus? Still want to lead like Christ?

1 Corinthians 11:1
Imitate me, as I also imitate Christ.

The answer is simple, but extremely hard! You husband and dad must teach the Bible, show the way for your family and be willing to suffer great pain, till Christ is formed within them. Do what it takes to let your kids see Christ in you.. You’ve got to remember guys, your not only a husband of a homeschooling mom, your a leader!
